TRIGGER WARNING: Once again, I kicked off the Blogging Carnival for Nonviolence with a terrible, tragic, violent and preventable death of a young person, this time in Croydon, South London. 15-year-old Elianne Andam was stabbed on a crowded bus on her way to school, apparently by a 17-year-old boy when her friend rejected flowers he was offering her. Elianne tried to intervene in their argument. Go here for the blog and to listen to our discussion on my Success Strategies show. What can we do to prevent these kinds of incidents from occurring? And please join us for the Forum on Nonviolence and Empathy on the 28th of October. Go here for information and to book (it's FREE of charge). Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is about empathy - about connecting from the heart. NVC is helping people all over the world to transform their relationships and communication. NVC is sometimes referred to as "giraffe speech" or "giraffe language" because the giraffe has the largest heart of any land animal, and is always willing to stick its neck out. A growing number of schools in the U.S. operate along the lines of giraffe speech. If you would like to learn more about NVC and empathy, I recommend you watch these six short films by Marshall Rosenberg. Plus The Listening Hour is held online every week. Go here for more information and to book. They also hold monthly face-to-face meetings in London. Go here for more NVC and empathy resources. Naimah Latif, the Executive Producer of my Success Strategies show on The Female Solution, has posted this video, "Nonviolence Starts With Parenting With Peace". People all over the world are learning Nonviolent Communication (NVC), which is based on empathy. Go here to watch the video now. Naimah has given us a lot to think about, in terms of parenting with peace. As usual, I am very inspired by her vision. What effect does it have on the world when parents use violent actions and/or words? And what effect will it have when parents learn the skills of NVC?
