The documentary Injustice chronicles the fight for justice of seven families whose members died in police custody, or in encounters with the police. None of the police officers involved in these killings have been prosecuted or disciplined. Six of the families are Black (African Caribbean), the seventh is Irish. I was privileged to interview the director, Ken Fero, recently. In addition to Injustice, we talked about his new film, Ultraviolence. Go here to listen to the interview. Parenting Blogs Parents (and others) often need positive, affirming statements to help us to navigate our way through life. So do children. The words, thoughts, feelings and emotions that reside in our consciousness – our conscious and unconscious minds - determine how well we perform in the world, how we communicate with others, and how we feel about ourselves. Affirmations for Parents provides affirmations - statements that can help us to build the mental states that give parents the self-esteem and confidence to be able to communicate with their children in the way they want to. Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a language that helps us to connect from the heart. It can teach us to honour both ourselves and those we communicate with – including children – by connecting with feelings and needs. Here are some parenting blogs. I shall be adding more. Parenting with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Help for Frustrated, Stressed Parents Affirmations for Parents Update 25 Confidence-Boosting Affirmations for Your Child How Positive Afffirmations Change My Mindset on Really Hard Mom Days Encouraging Children The words we use can give or withhold encouragement. The more our children hear encouraging words, thoughts and ideas, the more likely they are to do well in life and have the confidence to achieve their goals. The more you, as a parent, feel confidence within yourself, the more you will be able to help your child/ren to develop conficence and self-esteem. NVC defines empathy as connecting with feelings and needs. The more empathy we have for ourselves, the more we can offer empathy to others. Please share this with your networks. Thanks. Empathy is at the heart of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and at this time, when we have so many stresses, pressures and anxieties around the coronavirus (covid-19), we all need more empathy - for ourselves and for others. Anxieties can quickly escalate into anger and conflict. If you have been shouted at, or been angry with others, around the self-distancing guidelines, check this out. A six-year-old girl was arrested and taken out of the classroom in handcuffs. Sista Vicky Dillard of Fly Nubian Queen made us aware of this.
Now, you may be wondering, what could a six-year-old do that would warrant her being arrested and led out in handcuffs? I'll be saying more about this. Go here for more. I am not going to say much more about this. I am not going to use terms like "outrage", because we already know this is an outrage. This still upsets me when I think about it. But I prefer to focus on solutions, like Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Go here for more from the Blogging Carnival for Nonviolence 2020. |
